NEWS & EVENTS

A brand new convention season is on us!  I'm thrilled to have been named the Publications Director for Naka-kon in Kansas City, KS.  In addition to taking care of all their printed material I will be giving a panel and workshop, both on writing.

Beyond Fan Fiction:  Taking Your Writing to the Next Level

Ever read back over your fan fiction and wonder if maybe it couldn’t be something more, perhaps the next 50 Shades?  Or maybe you have an original work that you aren’t sure what to do with now you are through the first draft.  Then this workshop is for you.  We will be discussing the craft of editing, how it differs from writing and why it’s an essential skill for the serious writer.  Included with the lecture will be a workbook for you to use during and after the workshop.  (Supplies are limited.)   Since this is a workshop come prepared to write and bring the first 3 pages (no more than 750 words) of your current manuscript if you would like a critique.  Only dedicated, serious writers need attend.

Killing Mary Sue
Who is Mary Sue and why does she deserve to die?  This panel will help make sure your character is not stereotypical, boring or worthy of death.  This will not be a discussion of what a Mary Sue is; instead I will be helping you to make sure your character is not a Mary Sue in the first place.   We will cover the five basics of a character and how to use them to craft a unique and engaging character.

If you are local to Southern Missouri you can catch me at the Ozark Romance Authors' monthly meetings.
